The art podcast, Talk Art, was developed in 2018 as a passion project by award-winning actor Russell Tovey and gallerist Robert Diament and has grown into a highly successful show listened to by millions of fans around the world. The podcast is dedicated to the world of art and features exclusive interviews with leading artists, curators, gallerists and world-renowned names all linked by sharing their artistic experiences and love of art. Some of these featured guests include Sir Elton John, Billy Porter, Wolfgang Tillmans, Tracey Emin , Edward Enninful, Jerry Saltz and KAWS to name a few.

This episode will welcome Yinka Ilori, London based multidisciplinary artist of a British-Nigerian heritage, who specialises in storytelling by fusing his British and Nigerian heritage to tell new stories in contemporary design. Ilori began his practice in 2011 up-cycling vintage furniture, inspired by the traditional Nigerian parables and West African fabrics that surrounded him as a child. Humorous, provocative and fun, each piece of furniture he creates tells a story, bringing Nigerian verbal traditions into playful conversation with contemporary design.

The main objective and mission of Talk Art is to make art feel more accessible to all and to breakdown the boundaries of intimidating and elitist frames of mind. To make the discussions of art less alienating. Russell has been a passionate collector for over a decade, starting his collection with a print by the much-loved artist Tracey Emin. It was at a dinner in 2008 honouring Ms. Emin that the pair met and have been ‘art geek’ friends ever since. Robert has a master’s in art history and is currently the director of Carl Freedman Gallery in Margate, Kent, where he has worked for over a decade. He also used to be the front man of a successful English electronic rock band called Temposhark.

In 2019, Russell guest curated Margate NOW arts festival, which ran alongside the Turner Prize exhibition at Turner Contemporary. This year, he was nominated for a 2020 Critic’s Choice Award for best supporting actor for his role in the critically acclaimed BBC/HBO Drama series Years and Years written by Russell T. Davies. He can recently be seen in Bill Condon’s The Good Liar for Warner Bros. as well as starring in ITV drama Flesh and Blood. Russell will next be seen in a leading role for ITV/HULU drama, The Sister, from Luther creator Neil Cross.
