"I photographed Francis Bacon at his studio in Reece Mews. The light was bad, lots of cobwebs, dirt, all very murky and dirty and crammed with paintings. I was rather frightened of him I think. I don't think I made the best of it until I got him downstairs. He opened a stable door and it was suddenly quite amazing....the light came in, his face lit up, it was magic." Jane Bown
