Shakespeare's Poetry

In this year of national celebration to mark the London Olympics, the spotlight inevitably falls upon William Shakespeare, the Nation's most famous poet and dramatist.

This special event will look in detail at the sonnets, which lie at the heart of his verse, exploring their mysteries and examining their insights into themes such as love, death and time, as well as exploring the way in which the Bard used poetry in his plays and stagecraft.  

Featuring readings from the iconic Shakespearean actor Michael Pennington, and with international perpective on the world's most widely translated poet from acclained Romanian actor Ion Caramitru, as well as celebrated Shakespearean experts Paul Edmondson and Ann Thomas, this event promises to be a highlight in a year of celebration of British culture.
