Piatti Quartet: Dvořák Piano Quintet No. 2

Rush Hour Lates

Ina Boyle Quartet in E minor
Dvořák Piano Quintet No. 2 in A, Op. 81
Michael Trainor violin
Emily Holland violin
Miguel Sobrinho viola
Jessie Ann Richardson cello
Emmanuel Despax piano

In the third edition of our hugely popular hour-long series, Rush Hour Lates, we welcome our new Resident Quartet, the Piatti, to perform Dvořák’s last three quartets and his piano quintet, lovingly set up with musical preludes.

Ina Boyle was one of Ireland’s most important composers in the first half of the 20th Century. The Piatti Quartet released the premiere recording of her sole string quartet from 1934 in 2023 which was described as ‘absolutely not to be missed’ in Gramophone Magazine. The melancholic mood of the Quartet in E minor will be dispelled with one of the most famous pieces from classical music, Dvořák’s barnstorming and glorious Piano Quintet in A major from 1887, for which they will be joined by French pianist Emmanuel Despax.

The performance will last approximately 1 hour, without an interval.

Pianist Emmanuel Despax has gained worldwide recognition as a singular artist, whose interpretations bring a rare sincerity and imagination to the music.
