The world-renowned musicians of NWLive Arts bring influences from the West African Griot tradition, Indian Punjabi music, Western European classical music and folk music from Europe and the Middle East. Write to Life’s writers, who met as clients of Freedom from Torture’s unique writing and performance group, add their lived experience on the journey from an unspeakable past to new lives, and new voices, here in Britain. The resulting programme of solos and ensemble pieces brings the two groups together in an unforgettable musical conversation.
Duration: c70 minutes
‘…It was also a melting pot of an evening during which classical music collided with world music and flirted with Indian, Middle Eastern and South American notes. For an hour and twenty, we were transported from the little church of Holy Cross in St Pancras to far-flung Covid-free lands. It was such a treat.’ — Diary of a Londoness
‘…the theme of renewal and the commitment of the individual musicians was truly inspiring!… the blend of different genres and sound-worlds really worked, I felt a genuine collaboration there.’ — Samir Savant, London Handel Festival
