A gathering of world-class musicians from around the globe, monthly club night and livestream series, Parasang celebrates the different sounds present in London today. Each of the three Parasang shows in the London Unwrapped series at Kings Place brings together an eclectic selection of London-based musicians from diverse cultural roots and musical backgrounds to create a new musical form that is ancient and new, spontaneous and organised. Using electronic machines and modular synthesisers, Pouya Ehsaei, co-founder of Parasang, creates an ever-evolving structure of electronic sounds. Together they explore this soundworld, responding to one another in a unique way – like starlings floating in the sky, following one another, taking the lead from each other, constantly morphing into a new form, constantly evolving together. Expect waves of sound influenced by Jazz, Dub, Afro-Cuban Rhythms, Electronic dance music and West African Griots.
For the second iteration of the series, Pouya Ehsaei will be joined by Yelfris Valdés, a Cuban trumpeter taking inspirations from Yoruba traditions and Cuban and jazz music. Yelfris has collaborated with Sierra Maestra, Chucho Valdés, Moses Boyd, Kano and Ariwo. Hammadi Rencurrell Valdes a dynamic percussionist and musical director who has worked closely with legendary dancer, Carlos Acosta, for over a decade, and been involved in the production of seminal albums like Irakere 30 años, and Chucho Valdés’ New Conceptions, which was awarded a Latin Grammy. Hammadi is also the co-founder of the Cuban-Iranian band Ariwo.
Parasang is a night of live improvisation led by Iranian electronic musician Pouya Ehsaei and producer Harry Follett. More info: @Parasanglive
