Indian singer/composer Ranjana Ghatak will present an interactive vocal workshop, introducing the beauty of North Indian Classical Music through vocal exercises, rhythm cycles and learning a composition.


Invited to sing at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, Ranjana Ghatak is one of the leading Indian vocalists in the UK. After training in London, she studied under the guidance of Maestro Pandit Ajoy Chakabarty from 2000. Ranjana has explored the juxtaposition of sacred vocal music with contemporary instrumentation over the last 14 years. She has released a solo album and EP, and performed at Bath Music Festival, Wigmore Hall, opened for John McLaughlin, Shai Maestro and Trilok Gurtu. Collaborations include Nitin Sawhney, LPO, RPO and Jason Singh. Composing credits include a vocal piece for 130 singers inspired by Pandit Ravi Shankar’s opera and a Raga- inspired choral piece for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay area for 3 years, performing and teaching for CDI and the Ali Akbar College of Music.
