This programme explores the different guises of transformation in the music of Anna Meredith, Emily Hall, and Mozart.
Ranging from the explosive to the delicate, Anna Meredith’s Origami Songs is a series of compelling miniatures, inspired by the intricate origami folds that breathe life into a sheet of paper. Origami Songs had its world premiere at Kings Place in 2013 as part of Bach Unwrapped.
Intimate, heartbreaking, and beautiful, Emily Hall’s Life Cycle follows a woman’s emotional journey to motherhood. Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Mara Carlyle brings her mesmerising voice to this poignant song cycle – here premiered in a new version for large ensemble.
Complementing these two pieces is an insightful recasting of Mozart’s charming Piano Concerto No. 18, arranged by his student Johann Nepomuk Hummel for flute, violin, cello, and piano.
