Black Voices: Celebrating Nina Simone

Voices Unwrapped

Black Voices, the leading female a capella collective, return to Kings Place with a programme honouring the music and inspiration of Nina Simone.

Nina Simone’s uncompromising stance for social inclusion could not be more relevant today.  Black Voices had the honour of supporting her in concert around Europe and here in the UK.  Here, singers and musicians explore and mark her great legacy of songs in this specially commissioned concert ‘Celebrating Nina’!  A gifted and accomplished pianist and the most soulful songstress.

Nina Simone songs speak to everyone through a rich tapestry of expertly-crafted genres.  This is a celebration of her life, music, faith and love. One of Black Voices’ greatest inspirations!

Black Voices is globally celebrated for their unique form of a cappella music, singing in the black oral tradition. Its international following appreciates the diverse range of musicality and genres in their performances, the simple beauty and power of the human voice they present and their connection with their audience who enjoy the open and free expression that singing in the black oral tradition promotes. Such is their critical acclaim and respect amongst the music industry that Black Voices has opened concerts for some of the greatest names in music including Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Laura Mvula and Take 6.
