Lima Limo Presents: Hejira + Tawiah + Fran & Flora

Please note this is a standing event with a limited number of seats available.

Lima Limo Records, a new label collective founded by members of Hejira, present an evening of specially curated music, showcasing music from Hejira’s forthcoming album, alternative soul from Tawiah and experimental music from folk duo Fran & Flora.

With members that have recorded with and performed alongside such British greats such as Amy Winehouse, Nitin Sawhney and Floating Points, Hejira disseminate a rich musical mix that is as much a product of the capital as it is their collective multinational heritage.

Beautiful arrangement and stunning delicate vocals from lead singer Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne make up the deep trademark sound of this unmissable East London music outfit. Hejira consists of five stellar multi-instrumentalists that switch between two guitars, two bass, three sets of keys, drums and electronics as well as vocals from three of the members of the group.

‘Hejira’s music is uncomplicated and beautifully arranged, balancing gorgeous vocal harmonies atop finger picked guitar melodies and bustling percussion.’ Gilles Peterson
‘Soulful experimental rock unlike anything we’ve heard in a while’ Dummy
‘Stunning performance, totally captured the whole room’ BBC

**Exclusive free track for all ticket buyers**

All ticket buyers will receive an exclusive download track on Tuesday 15 May of a brand-new collaborative piece by Hejira, Tawiah & Fran & Flora. The track was created in a single day including writing, recording, mixing and mastering.

South London alt-soul explorer Tawiah seamlessly blends avant-garde musical leanings, beautiful melodic sensibilities and electronics. The vestiges of Tawiah’s early vocal training in church contrast subtly against the distinctive South London accent that has helped to place her firmly at the vanguard of a diverse yet notably British alternative soul movement in recent years.

She has been championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Zane Lowe and the Guardian for her deep, immersive and absorbing music. Her collaborative credentials include Blood Orange, CeeLo Green, Wiley, Kindness, Cinematic Orchestra, Ghostpoet, Zed Bias; and she was personally selected by Mark Ronson to front his band whilst supporting Jaz-Z on his world tour.

‘Languid, luxurious soul music built from electronics.’ Clash
‘Wait until you see her live. She slays so hard, you better hope there’s a doctor in the house.’ Time Out London

Described as ‘fiercely passionate’ by BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction DJ Max Reinhardt, Fran & Flora captivate their audiences with soulful laments, exquisite songs, irresistible dance tunes, and tales of their musical adventures.

This new collaboration between violinist Flora Curzon and folk/experimental cellist Francesca Ter-Berg combines aspects of traditional string music and song from Eastern Europe with original compositions and improvisation. Having travelled across Europe to study with many great masters of Eastern European Roma and Klezmer music Fran & Flora perform this repertoire incorporating their own unique arrangements creating a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.

Fran & Flora embark on this new musical journey together after many years collaborating with groundbreaking artists including Talvin Singh (Mercury Prize Winner), Sam Lee & Friends (BBC Folk Award winner), Hejira, Dunajska Kapelye, the London Klezmer Quartet, Cosmo Sheldrake and Frank London (Klezmatics, US).
