Lima Limo Records present a double celebration of new music from their stable following the release of debut LP A Plane Over Woods by The Vernon Spring and upcoming debut EP First Light from new signing Ideophone.
Described by Radio 1’s Benji B as “an amazing record”, A Plane Over Woods has been making gentle yet seismic waves with tastemakers and music lovers alike since its release in late March this year. Armed with a rare ability to hold simplicity and sophistication in the same hand, Sam Beste aka The Vernon Spring has created a seamless album of catharsis and healing, which draws on the traditions of jazz improvisation, classical composition and subtle electronic production to make a singular and always soulful sound. In addition to performing material from A Plane Over Woods, Beste will also be unveiling music from his sophomore album What’s Going On ~ an ambitious and audacious response record to the seminal Marvin Gaye album of the same name to be released later this year on its 50th anniversary. Although Beste’s work as a producer, performer and composer covers a multitude of styles and roles ~ from playing piano for the likes of Amy Winehouse, through to writing and production credits on Kano, Kindness and Tawiah records ~ this is a unique opportunity to see him perform his solo works as ‘The Vernon Spring’ in an intimate setting.
Kicking off the evening’s proceedings will be fellow Lima Limo Records founder Alex Reeve with his new solo project Ideophone. Following years of touring with the likes of Floating Points and Matthew Herbert, Ideophone represents a newfound freedom for Reeve to play and explore, to express creativity without boundaries, building music from tape cassette experiments, processed loops and guitar improvisations. Reeve will perform music from debut EP First Light evoking images, memories and meaning through his very personal exploration of solo guitar music.
