Songlines Encounters Festival returns for its ninth edition this summer. Do you know your kannel from your kora, your fado from your klezmer? Find out with our festival glossary.

‘This is the ninth year of Songlines Encounters Festival. We’re doing what we’ve always done – bring high-quality artists from around the world as championed by world music magazine Songlines to play in the superb environment of Kings Place.’

Simon Broughton (Songlines Editor-in-Chief)

Songlines Encounters Festival returns with a mouth-watering line-up including the legendary Ethiopian singer and pianist Girma Bèyènè, fado superstar Gisela João, an unmissable collaboration between guitar masters Debashish Bhattacharya and Derek Gripper, the epic AKA Trio (Antonio Forcione, Seckou Keita and Adriano Adewale), experimental folk from Lau (Kris Drever, Martin Green and Aidan O’Rourke) and much more.

Discover a world of music from 30 May – 3 June.
