Prince at Kings Place
Feature
At 9pm on 14 Feb 2014, Prince – just weeks before he would fill stadiums across the country – played a surprise show in Hall One to 420 people. 10 years on, we’ve gathered some photos, articles and memories from one of the biggest nights so far in our 15 year history.
‘It surely ruined several Valentine's Day plans, but for the few hundred people who somehow found themselves at the latest of Prince's London guerilla gigs, it was worth sacrificing the possible loss of a future spouse for something much more important.’
‘I therefore feel monumentally privileged to get a live introduction to Prince and 3rdeyegirl at this - at first - stripped back, acoustic performance.’
‘The part I’ll never forget is when someone from the audience screamed "we love you Prince!" and Prince stopped performing, looked the guy dead in the eye and said… "You don’t know what love is."’
‘'....we queue up, first in line, this is the real deal, this is happening! It’s not fake news! I’m dialling the biggest Prince fan I know @manonion to say drop everything, cab it here NOW, and we get seats on the front row, one of the greatest nights of our lives...'’
‘Then Prince joins them on guitar and - full respect - announces "we're 3rdeyegirl" and they get stuck into the final run of electric tracks, including new one 'Plectrum Electrum', a smoking 'Chaos And Disorder' and a glorious instrumental cover of Roxy Music's 'More Than This'.’
