An evening with a master pianist combining depth, range and insight: Peter Donohoe in Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninov. The concert is followed by a post‑performance conversation hosted by pianist Kathryn Stott (Kings Medal for Music 2024), offering further insight into the repertoire, interpretation and performance.

Peter Donohoe presents a wide‑ranging programme that brings together late Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninov, combining some of the piano repertoire’s most searching works with music of brilliance and momentum.

The concert opens with Schubert’s Moments Musicaux, concise pieces that move between lyricism and drama, followed by the C minor Sonata D958, one of the composer’s final piano sonatas, known for its drive, contrast and structural clarity.

After the interval, Donohoe performs a selection of Chopin’s Preludes op.28, before Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin, a virtuosic work that expands Chopin’s famous Prelude into a large‑scale concert piece.

The evening concludes with a post‑concert discussion with Peter Donohoe, hosted by pianist Kathryn Stott (Kings Medal for Music 2024), offering audiences the chance to hear directly from the performer about the music and its interpretation.

About Kathryn Stott

Kathryn Stott has been passionate about music since the age of five and has enjoyed an international career spanning over four decades, performing in many of the world’s leading concert venues. Renowned both as a soloist and collaborative pianist, she is celebrated for her wide-ranging repertoire and deeply expressive musicianship.

Her extensive discography reflects her commitment to diversity in programming, with repertoire spanning from the core canon to less commonly performed works. Notably, her recordings of the complete solo piano music of Gabriel Fauré have received particular acclaim, and her championing of the composer was recognised by the French government with the award of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

A dedicated collaborator from her early studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Kathryn enjoyed a long-standing musical partnership with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Their collaboration spanned 40 years and took them to concert halls across the globe, culminating in their final album, Merci (2024), which reflects on their shared musical journey.

Alongside her performing career, Kathryn has been actively involved in artistic direction, curating festivals and concert series in the UK, Italy and Australia for over 35 years. In recent years, she has also contributed to broadcasting, including programmes such as Fauré and Me for BBC Radio 3.

Now stepping back from performance, she devotes her time to teaching and mentoring young musicians, particularly at the Royal Northern College of Music, while continuing to support the next generation through coaching and competition work.
