Singing Together

Feature

As part of our year-long 2022 Voices Unwrapped programme, we’re welcoming community, amateur and children’s choirs into our public spaces.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a hugely challenging time for choirs. At Kings Place, we know how much joy singing with others can bring, and what a powerful force choirs can be for building community, supporting mental health, and developing a sense of wellbeing. We want to support London’s choral recovery.

As part of our Voices Unwrapped series in 2022, we are opening up our spaces to local choirs who could use a boost to their recovery from the pandemic. We made a call out last year, and kicked off in January with the London Show Choir providing a wonderful foyer warm-up before our opening night with The Swingles and Vadé. Next up will be the New London Children’s Choir, prefacing a concert with Aurora Orchestra and Roderick Williams, and Constanza Chorus will join us before our April concert with Voces8 and Eric Whitacre.

We will be running a special day-long workshop for all the Music Directors in the summer, and hope to extend the programme right into the Christmas period. If your London choir might be interested, there is still time to get in touch.

The Singing Together project is curated by the conductor, baritone and teacher Sam Evans Test

Criteria

  • As this is a community-based project, we will prioritise choirs from the Greater London area.
  • We are looking for a broad, diverse range of choirs, of different sizes, and representing varied genres of music, just like our artistic programme.
  • We are also especially looking for choirs who need some inspiration and support to get back on their feet.
  • Our shortlist will be 10-12 choirs, but if you are not sure, do get in touch, as we may have other opportunities to offer throughout next year.
